The Oman Experience
From city to desert
This sample journey combines the colours and scents of Muscat with the historic interior, high mountain roads, clear wadis and two nights among the dunes. Niki personally designed the original route. We use that experience as a starting point, adapting the pace, hotels and activities to your travelling party.
Day 1–2 · Arrival and Muscat
There is time to settle in after arrival. A first introduction to Muscat includes sights such as the Royal Opera House, the old city and lively Muttrah Souq.
Day 3–4 · Through the mountains to Nizwa
Visit the Grand Mosque before travelling through Wadi Bani Awf by 4WD to Nizwa. Around Nizwa you will find forts, mud-brick villages, date plantations and the characterful lanes of Al Hamra and Misfah Al Abriyeen.
Day 5–6 · Jebel Akhdar and the Wahiba Sands
After Nizwa's souq and fort, continue to Birkat Al Mouz and its traditional aflaj irrigation system. A walk on Jebel Akhdar passes mountain villages and palm terraces. The scenery then changes completely: a desert camp, a respectful visit with a Bedouin family and sunset on the dunes await in the Wahiba Sands.
Day 7–8 · Wadis and the coast
Walk in Wadi Bani Khalid and, when conditions are suitable, swim in its clear pools. The route continues via Sur's dhow yard to Ras Al Hadd. A visit to the turtle reserve can be arranged, although sightings of wild animals can never be guaranteed. Return to Muscat along the coast via Wadi Tiwi and Bimmah Sinkhole.
Day 9 · Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airport. If you would like more time, we can add extra nights beside the sea or in Muscat.
