Eating fish and meze in Latchi harbour
Some places sum up an entire island. The little fishing harbour of Latchi, on the north-west coast near Polis, is one of them: wooden boats, nets on the quay and tavernas where the fish was still swimming that morning.
Fish meze: a feast of small dishes
Don't order a main course — order fish meze: a long procession of small dishes. Grilled octopus, fried anchovies, prawns, calamari, village salad and warm bread. Your table fills up before you know it, and there's always more coming than you expect.
When to go
Arrive around sunset: the harbour turns golden, the boats bob on the water and the terrace fills with Cypriot families — the best sign that you're in the right place. In July and August it's wise to book.
Niki's insider tip
This is our fixed ritual after a boat trip along the Akamas: first a swim in the Blue Lagoon, then a table by the water. Ask about the catch of the day and let the owner choose — that's what we do too.
